Ali hits back at ex: ‘He wants his name in all the headlines’
AUSTRALIA’s newest Bachelorette has addressed the controversy surrounding her high-profile breakup with Bachelor In Paradise co-star Grant Kemp, accusing her ex of chasing headlines.
Ali Oetjen — who first found fame on Tim Robards’ season of The Bachelor in 2013 — got together with LA-based Grant in Paradise, which aired earlier this year. The couple split shortly after Ali moved to the US to be with him amid rumours she’d cheated with one of his friends.
For his part, Grant has done nothing but fan the flames of gossip surrounding the split, even claiming in New Idea today that she’d booted some contestants off The Bachelorette after they grilled her on the infidelity reports.
With her focus on moving on and finding new love, it’s clear Ali’s frustrated her ex won’t shut up about the past — especially as they haven’t actually spoken to each other for a year.
“It’s the case of the ex that won’t go away,” she told news.com.au.
“He obviously wants his name in all the headlines, and he’s getting exactly what he wants.”
While Ali refused to confirm or deny that she’d found love on her season of The Bachelorette, which was filmed months ago, she did reveal that she was “very happy” and “at peace”.
Given how things turned out for Nick Cummins, who finished up his stint on The Bachelor last week as a single man after dumping both finalists, fans have been a bit wary about investing in the next season of the franchise, lest we all be disappointed again.
Ali admitted she’d felt that pressure to choose someone at the end.
“It really mounted just before (filming) started,” she said.
“On the red carpet, I was like, ‘Oh my God, what if there’s not one guy on here that’s Mr Right?’ I wasn’t going to settle for just anybody.”
The first full cast photo of the men vying for Ali’s heart has been released by Ten ahead of this week’s season premiere, but it’s already sparked criticism over the lack of diversity among the men.

Weighing into the drama, Ali insisted that she hadn’t even noticed the similarities.
